ATTICA — Claudine (Wakefield) Ennis, 90, Attica, died at 4:50 a.m. Friday, May 10, 2002 in Woodland Manor Nursing Center, Attica. She was born Nov. 17, 1911 in Mellott, the daughter of Manson and Hazel Leona Simmons Wakefield. She married Leonard Ennis June 29, 1929 in Bloomfield. He preceded in death April 6, 1986. She was raised in Mellott, where she graduated from Mellott High School. While in school she was the only varsity cheerleader for the basketball team and also ran track for the school. She formerly lived in Lafayette for many years, until moving back to Attica two years ago. She formerly worked as a telephone operator for the Attica Telephone Company. She worked as a bookkeeper for the Indiana State Highway Commission in Veedersburg, later working for Robinson Grain Company. For six years she worked for Attica Building and Loan Company. She was a former member for Harrison Hills Country Club for 45 years, where she was an avid golfer and won several tournaments. She also garnered several trophies during her 30 years of bowling. She was a member of the Attica First United Methodist Church. She was a member in and held the office of president of the Business and Professional Women, Eagles Auxiliary, Harrison Hills Ladies Golf Association, West Central Golf Association, Community Hospital Guild, Attica City Bowling Association and formerly chaired the Attica United Way. Additionally, she was vice chairman of the Fountain County Democrat organization and enjoyed a personal friendship with Assistant Attorney General of the United States, Alex Campbell in 1948. Survivors include: a son, Bill (Darlene) Ennis, Lafayette; a sister, Pearl Hutchison, Williamsport; three grandchildren, Bill, Tamara and Jackie; four great-grandchildren, Davis, Jessica, Nicholas and Alena; and a great-great-grandson, Shiloh. She was also preceded in death by a son, Jack; a sister, Mildred; and a granddaughter, Claudia. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Maus Funeral Home, Attica, with the Rev. G. Scott Pattison officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Attica. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. – jlr
